PT SMI, an Indonesian state-owned infrastructure firm, visited East Java in October 2025 to oversee clean energy and sustainability projects.
The Ijen Geothermal Power Plant, inaugurated in June 2025 with 35 megawatts of capacity, supplies electricity to over 80,000 households and reduces CO2 emissions by up to 838,332 tons annually.
PT SMI financed 65% of the project, about $144.9 million, through blended finance with international partners including AFD, GGGI, and USAID SINAR.
The company also supported sea turtle conservation at Omah Tukik in Banyuwangi, releasing 40 hatchlings and sustaining a 90% hatching success rate through community programs involving 500 locals.
These efforts align with Indonesia’s renewable energy and climate goals.
