Peel NRE plans to demolish remaining Fiddlers Ferry power station structures by 2027, redeveloping the site into a mixed-use area with homes, jobs, and a battery storage system.
Peel NRE has submitted a planning application to demolish the final structures at the decommissioned Fiddlers Ferry power station, including four cooling towers, chimney, turbine hall, and boiler house, with work expected to start by end of 2025 and finish by late 2027.
The site, closed in 2020, will be redeveloped into a mixed-use area with up to 860 homes—30% affordable—and 101 hectares of employment space, potentially creating 845 jobs.
The project includes new transport links, public amenities, and a proposed 150MW battery storage system.
Demolition follows the 2023 collapse of four cooling towers and ongoing site remediation.
