Meta launches Candle subsea cable in 2028, connecting Asia-Pacific nations with 570 Tbps capacity.
Meta is launching the Candle subsea cable in 2028, the largest capacity cable in the Asia-Pacific region with 570 terabits per second, spanning 8,000 kilometers and connecting Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore.
The project, developed with regional telecom partners, will serve over 580 million people using 24 fibre-pair technology.
Meta also updated on other subsea projects: Bifrost now links Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, and the U.S., with Mexico joining by 2026, adding 260 Tbps of redundancy; Echo provides 260 Tbps between Guam and California; and Apricot will span 12,000 km with 290 Tbps.
These upgrades support growing demand for high-speed connectivity, especially for AI.
Meta is also hiring U.S. contractors to build Hindi-language AI chatbots for Indian users.
