A man was fatally shot in a planned ambush at a Northern Ireland gas station in 2019; two men were convicted and given long prison terms.
Malcolm McKeown, 54, was fatally shot 16 times in a premeditated ambush at a County Down service station in August 2019, with a judge calling the attack a "planned assassination reminiscent of a terrorist ambush."
The killing, captured on CCTV, occurred in broad daylight near an ATM and fuel pumps, with a dark VW Passat seen entering the site before the shooting and later found burned in Lurgan.
Jake O’Brien, 31, and Andrew Thomas Kenneth Martin, 30, were convicted of murder and firearms possession.
The judge cited overwhelming circumstantial evidence, noting McKeown had a criminal history, had recently been released from prison, and had received threats.
O’Brien received a 26-year minimum sentence, Martin 24 years, both with concurrent indeterminate sentences of at least 10 years for firearm charges.
