India launches national model cooperative for waste-to-energy, pulses self-reliance, and rural jobs.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has highlighted the transformative role of India’s cooperative sector, unveiling a national model at a sugar cooperative in Maharashtra that converts waste into biogas and potash, supports rural employment, and diversifies into ethanol and fisheries.
He credited the Ministry of Cooperation with revitalizing the sector, enabling cooperative-led initiatives like CBG plants, PACS integration, and rural call centers.
Shah announced that NAFED and NCCF will procure pulses at 100% MSP, establish 1,000 processing units, and distribute 3.8 million seed kits under a six-year pulses self-reliance mission, aiming to boost farmer incomes and rural economic resilience.
