India expands UPI to Qatar supermarkets, boosting digital payments for travelers and trade.
India has launched its Unified Payments Interface (UPI) digital payment system at Lulu Group supermarkets in Qatar, expanding access for Indian travelers and residents.
The rollout, led by NPCI International Payments Ltd with partners Qatar National Bank and NETSTARS, enables real-time, low-cost transactions.
It follows a previous launch at Hamad International Airport’s duty-free outlets and marks Qatar as the eighth country to adopt UPI.
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal called it a milestone in India-Qatar financial cooperation, highlighting UPI’s role in boosting trade, reducing remittance costs, and strengthening bilateral ties.
The move supports India’s growing global digital payment footprint.
