Catherine Christey pleaded guilty to drink driving in New Zealand, causing a crash while three times over the legal limit, on the same day her children went missing after their father was killed.
Catherine Christey, mother of Tom Phillips’ children, pleaded guilty to drink driving in New Zealand on October 6, 2025, after crashing her car on August 2 while three times over the legal alcohol limit.
The crash occurred on Tauraroa Valley Road in Waimahora, flipping her vehicle onto its roof.
She was unconscious and had not seen her children since December 2021.
The court, citing emotional impact, denied media cameras.
Christey was fined $400 with no costs, ordered to install an alcohol interlock device, face a 28-day disqualification, and serve a 12-month restricted licence followed by three years of zero alcohol driving, effectively a four-year sentence.
The incident occurred the same day police began searching for her children after Phillips was fatally shot during a police pursuit following a burglary.
Catherine Christey se declaró culpable de conducir en estado de ebriedad en Nueva Zelanda, causando un accidente tres veces por encima del límite legal, el mismo día que sus hijos desaparecieron después de que su padre fuera asesinado.
