Australian prosecutors appeal life sentence for woman convicted of killing three family members with poisoned meal, claiming it's too lenient.
Australian prosecutors are appealing the life sentence given to Erin Patterson, 51, who was convicted of murdering three people—her former in-laws and their sister—by serving them beef Wellington laced with death cap mushrooms in July 2023.
Sentenced to life with a 33-year non-parole period, Patterson’s punishment was reduced by the judge, citing her harsh prison conditions, including prolonged solitary confinement.
Prosecutors argue the sentence is “manifestly inadequate” and seek a life sentence without parole.
Patterson, who claims the poisoning was accidental, plans to appeal her convictions, with her legal team filing within an extended deadline.
The appeals are now pending.
