Two drivers fined for staying in the outside lane on M4, police say it hampers traffic and safety.
Thames Valley Police issued tickets to two drivers on the M4 for improperly using the outside lane, with a Mercedes driver followed for five miles and a BMW driver remaining in the far-right lane despite no traffic to pass.
Both were traveling at about 90mph and were recorded by unmarked police vehicles.
Officers warned that lingering in the outside lane impedes traffic flow and increases safety risks, urging drivers to use the leftmost lane unless overtaking.
The Highway Code requires returning to the left lane after passing, and violations can result in fines up to £2,500, penalty points, or disqualification.
Certain large vehicles are also restricted from using the outside lane under specific conditions.
