Starting October 12, 2025, UK travelers entering the Schengen Area must use the new Entry-Exit System (EES), which replaces passport stamps with biometric checks including fingerprints and photos at border crossings.
The system tracks stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period across 29 countries, requiring registration only once per trip.
While the process is free and mandatory, delays of about 10 minutes are expected, especially at Eurostar and port terminals.
Cruise passengers not disembarking in Schengen countries are exempt.
Travelers must carry passports and comply with the 90-in-180-day rule, though medical insurance is recommended but not required by the EES.
