NSW has launched a specialized legal team with $6.9 million in funding to enforce strict industrial manslaughter laws, increasing individual jail terms to 25 years and corporate fines to $20 million.
The unit, comprising a senior solicitor, two solicitors, and a witness officer, will prosecute those responsible for workplace deaths, which average one per week.
The move follows similar laws enacted in Tasmania in 2024.
