Nebraska aims to improve student achievement and teacher supply by 2030 through a new education plan.
The Nebraska Department of Education is finalizing a strategic plan to guide state education through 2030, aiming to boost third-grade English proficiency from 59% to 75% and eighth-grade math from 56.5% to 80%.
It seeks to reduce chronic absenteeism, improve high school graduation rates from 88% to 94%, expand dual credit enrollment by 17%, and address teacher shortages by doubling education career entrants and cutting vacant or unqualified positions in half.
The plan, shaped by statewide input, includes incentives and potential certification changes and will be voted on later in 2025.
