flag Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to drop 29 May 9, 2023, protest cases over lack of evidence and political bias.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet has approved withdrawing all criminal cases tied to the May 9, 2023, protests following Imran Khan’s arrest, citing insufficient evidence, flawed investigations, and political motivation. The decision, backed by the provincial government and announced via the Home Department, includes 29 cases, mostly under anti-terrorism laws, involving PTI leaders and workers. Additional Advocate General Muhammad Inam Khan Yousafzai has been appointed special prosecutor to file the withdrawal in court. The move follows a review by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and comes amid ongoing judicial scrutiny, with a hearing scheduled for October 15. Some cases had already been dismissed due to lack of proof, and the government argues the remaining ones were based on abuse of power by the caretaker administration.
