Kentucky coach Mark Stoops denies leaving after loss, calls report false and vows to stay.
Mark Stoops, Kentucky’s head football coach, denied reports he wanted to leave after a loss to Tennessee, calling the claim “100 percent false” and stating there is “zero chance” he will step down.
Speaking after a 35-14 loss to Georgia dropped the Wildcats to 2-3 and 0-3 in the SEC, Stoops reaffirmed his commitment.
Kentucky has struggled in SEC play, going 1-10 in its last 11 conference games and outscored 312-163.
Since a 10-3 season in 2021, the team is 20-23 overall under Stoops, who has led eight consecutive bowl appearances since 2016 and remains the SEC’s longest-tenured coach.
Firing him would cost the university 75% of his remaining salary, currently a $38 million buyout.
Upcoming games include ranked opponents Texas and Tennessee following a bye week.
