Four people were rescued Saturday evening, October 5, 2025, after their 23-foot boat ran aground on rocks about 200 yards offshore from Wells, Maine, around 7:15 p.m.
The vessel, which had left Wells Harbor at 2:30 p.m. to fish, struck rocks at 16 knots while returning at 6:45 p.m., despite the crew believing the area was safe.
The U.S. Coast Guard and Maine Marine Patrol responded after a call at 7:27 p.m. As the tide rose, the boat shifted further onto the rocks, prompting a repositioning of the Maine Marine Patrol vessel.
Two were initially rescued by Marine Patrol, and the remaining two were rescued when the Coast Guard arrived.
Two of the four sustained injuries—hand cuts and a back injury—though details were not released.
No fatalities occurred.
