A Wisconsin man was rescued from a 20-foot soybean silo after being trapped up to his shoulders.
A 65-year-old Wisconsin man was rescued Friday morning from a 20-foot-tall soybean silo in the Town of Paris after becoming trapped up to his shoulders while inspecting an auger.
Around 7:45 a.m., he reached a family member by phone after being unable to call for help for 15 minutes, prompting a response from 18 emergency agencies across Kenosha, Racine, and Illinois counties.
Firefighters used rappelling gear, built a temporary wall, and vacuumed soybeans to free him, then winched him out through the silo’s top by 9:45 a.m.
He was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries and reported to be doing well.
Authorities praised the coordinated rescue effort.
