Waverley Council keeps Let’s Go Surfing as Bondi Beach’s sole surf school, rejecting calls for competition.
Waverley Council has upheld Let’s Go Surfing’s exclusive permit to operate at Bondi Beach, rejecting calls to allow a second surf school despite arguments that competition would lower prices and improve access.
Group lessons at Bondi cost $140, $40 more than at nearby Maroubra Beach where the same operator runs a school.
A confidential council report acknowledged potential benefits of competition but cited concerns over overcrowding, operator conflict, and increased lifeguard interventions.
Though a trial was considered in May, the council decided in a closed-door meeting to maintain the current model.
Let’s Go Surfing welcomed the decision, and the council has not commented publicly.
