Wales approves RWE’s Alwen Forest Wind Farm, a 9-turbine project set to power 70,600 homes, with construction planned for 2027.
The Welsh Government has approved RWE’s Alwen Forest Wind Farm, a nine-turbine project in North Wales near the Alwen Reservoir, expected to power up to 70,600 homes.
Standing 200 meters tall, the turbines will connect to the National Grid via an existing substation at Clocaenog Forest.
The site is managed by Natural Resources Wales and owned by the Welsh Ministers and Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water.
RWE is partnering with Community Energy Wales to explore local ownership under a new Welsh policy.
Construction could begin in 2027 pending final approval, with the project projected to create or safeguard around 270 jobs, including 207 in Wales, and generate £9.5 million in local spending.
RWE is also advancing other renewable projects across Wales as part of broader decarbonization efforts.
