Uttar Pradesh is expanding water conservation through public-led construction of dams, ponds, and modernized irrigation to combat scarcity.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed a major push to expand water conservation efforts, urging the construction and restoration of check dams, ponds, and blast coupes through a public campaign modeled after 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam.'
He emphasized scientific water use at government tube wells, modernization to boost irrigation efficiency, and timely progress on major projects like the Saryu Canal and Bansagar.
Since 2017, the state has built thousands of water structures, recharging over 10,000 hectare-meters of groundwater and creating irrigation for 146,000 hectares.
The CM also mandated rainwater harvesting for large buildings, promoted post-monsoon pond use for farming, and called for public participation, photographic documentation, and awareness campaigns to combat water scarcity.
