On October 3, 2025, two coaches from Japan and Kenya were bitten by stray dogs on the warm-up track at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium during the World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi, despite prior efforts by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to clear the venue and maintain dog-catching teams.
The incidents prompted immediate medical treatment for both coaches, followed by hospital care and return to their hotels.
In response, the MCD has deployed two permanent dog-catching teams inside the stadium with vehicles for rapid, humane removal and relocation of strays, while the area has been fully sanitized.
Organizers reaffirmed that participant safety is the top priority, with round-the-clock measures now in place to ensure secure conditions for the remainder of the event.
