Tanzania has lifted its ban on Kenyan-owned businesses after diplomatic talks, allowing Kenyan nationals to resume operations in retail, mobile money, repairs, salons, cleaning, small-scale mining, and tour guiding.
The July 28 order had threatened fines, prison, or visa revocation for non-citizens running such businesses, but Tanzania confirmed Kenyan enterprises are exempt.
Kenya welcomed the move, citing regional cooperation and the East African Community’s free movement principles.
Both nations stressed resolving disputes through dialogue, with Kenya urging affected citizens to contact its High Commission in Tanzania for support.
