A storm nearly canceled a fashion shoot for Moda in Pelle’s 50th anniversary campaign, but local help and dramatic weather saved it, creating powerful, authentic images.
A fashion shoot for Leeds-based footwear brand Moda in Pelle at Ullswater in the Lake District was nearly canceled due to severe weather from Storm Floris, which disrupted boat trips and made filming unsafe.
Local residents and Ullswater Steamers stepped in, providing boats, piers, and knowledge, enabling the shoot for the brand’s 50th anniversary campaign, titled *The Voyage*, to continue.
An unplanned moment—a model posing on a steamer’s bow beneath the Union Jack as a military aircraft passed overhead—became a standout image.
The storm’s intensity added raw energy to the final film, which the brand’s designer praised for enhancing authenticity.
For photographer Kate Ferguson, who grew up in Cumbria, the experience felt like a personal homecoming.
The shoot followed a similarly weather-affected session the day before by sister brand Shoon in Barrow-in-Furness, where filming occurred in 50mph winds.
