Stonewall Columbus received an Ohio Historical Marker on October 3, 2025, becoming the fourth LGBTQ+ site in the state to be recognized, honoring its 45 years of advocacy since its founding as Stonewall Union in the 1980s.
The marker, unveiled during LGBTQ+ History Month, was funded independently after federal support was withdrawn.
Executive Director Densil Porteous praised the recognition while expressing concern over the limited number of such markers, highlighting ongoing challenges like anti-LGBTQ+ legislation and the erasure of transgender people.
The organization continues to advocate for visibility and inclusion through programs, community events, and new ventures like Queer Beans and Little Gay Bookstore.
