Starting October 12, 2025, the EU’s Entry/Exit System (EES) will replace passport stamping for non-EU travelers entering or leaving the Schengen Area, using biometrics and digital records to track entries and exits.
The system, affecting tourists, business travelers, and others from visa-exempt countries like the UAE, will store fingerprints and facial images for up to three years to enhance security and detect overstays.
EU citizens, long-stay visa holders, and residents are exempt.
Airlines advise allowing extra time at borders during rollout.
