Rochester’s clock tower project relocates due to bridge construction, with city leading efforts and nonprofit advising.
Rochester’s historic clock tower project is shifting locations due to conflicts with the upcoming 6th Street Bridge construction.
The original site near Fire Station 1 is no longer viable, prompting a move to a new location near Hazama Park on the opposite side of South Broadway.
Construction had begun under a partnership involving the city, fire department relief association, and the nonprofit Bring Back the Clock Tower, founded by late historian Alan Calavano, who donated $100,000.
The city is now seeking to take lead responsibility, with $185,000 in raised funds to be held in a dedicated account for design, construction, and maintenance.
The nonprofit will retain an advisory role in shaping the project and pursuing additional grants or state funding.
A decision on the revised plan is pending a city council review.
