The Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances (CoIED) in Pakistan resolved 113 cases in September 2025, including 14 individuals who returned home.
Since its 2011 establishment, it has handled 10,636 cases, resolving 8,986 with 1,650 still under investigation, achieving an 84.48% disposal rate.
Between July and September 2025, 289 cases were resolved, averaging 96 monthly.
The CoIED launched a special cell to assist families with Form B for children and pensions for government employee families.
Civil society groups urge a review of the current approach, while international pressure grows, including a UN call in August 2024 for Pakistan to ratify the International Convention on Enforced Disappearances and protect ethnic minorities.
In December 2024, the Supreme Court affirmed that only Parliament can address the issue.
