Designed for 200 km/h speeds and compliant with EU technical standards, the 183.1-kilometer Serbian section is part of a larger 341.7-kilometer project, with the Belgrade-Novi Sad portion already operational since 2022.
The line, which created over 1,000 jobs and upgraded rail signaling to ETCS Level 2, is a flagship Belt and Road Initiative project and the first high-speed rail built by a Chinese firm in Europe.
Hungary’s section is expected to open next year, enabling a direct high-speed link between Belgrade and Budapest in about 1 hour 35 minutes.
