Microsoft tests free, ad-supported Xbox Cloud Gaming with limited access and monthly hour caps.
Microsoft is testing a free, ad-supported version of Xbox Cloud Gaming, allowing users to stream select games without a subscription, including some owned titles, Free Play Days games, and Retro Classics.
The service, expected to launch in months, will require two minutes of pre-roll ads, cap sessions at one hour, and limit users to five free hours per month.
It will be available on PC, consoles, handhelds, and web browsers, but not mobile.
This move follows a $30 monthly price hike for Game Pass Ultimate, sparking backlash, and aims to expand cloud gaming access amid rising infrastructure costs.
Details may change before public rollout.
