Lydia Church, a 25-year-old para shot putter from Peterborough, won bronze in the F12 event at the 2025 World Championships in New Delhi with a throw of 12.60 meters, securing her first global medal after overcoming a back injury.
She finished behind Italy’s Assunta Legnante and China’s Zhao Yuping, edging out Turkey’s Serap Demirkapu, who achieved a personal best.
Church, a former European silver medalist, said the result exceeded expectations and has fueled her goal of winning gold at the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics.
The British team, supported by sponsor Novuna, includes over 30 athletes competing in New Delhi.
