First Bus drivers in Greater Manchester have accepted a 20% pay rise, increasing their hourly rate from £15 to £16 effective April 1, 2025, with further hikes planned to reach £20 per hour on Sundays by 2026, ending strike action.
The deal, backed by Unite union members, marks a major improvement for drivers previously the lowest-paid in the region.
While strikes at First Bus and Metroline have been called off, Stagecoach drivers in Oldham, Stockport, and Middleton are set to strike on multiple dates in October after rejecting a pay offer.
Unite remains open to negotiations but warned of further industrial action if acceptable deals are not reached.
Meanwhile, a separate strike threat in Chorley and Preston was averted after drivers accepted a 6.4% raise over one year, raising wages to £16.50 per hour.
