Athletics' Lawrence Butler undergoes surgery for torn tendon, expected back for spring training.
Athletics outfielder Lawrence Butler had surgery on Friday to repair a partial tear in his right patellar tendon and remove chronic scar tissue in Los Angeles.
The 25-year-old played in 152 games during the 2025 season despite the injury, posting career highs with a .234 batting average, 21 home runs, 63 RBIs, 83 runs, 30 doubles, and 22 steals.
He was the team’s nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award and is under a seven-year, $65.5 million contract signed in March 2024.
Butler is expected to return in time for spring training.
The A’s played their 2025 season in West Sacramento ahead of their planned relocation to Las Vegas for the 2028 season.
