South African authorities in Gqeberha used K9 units to arrest six people suspected of abalone poaching in the Schoenmakerskop area, seizing the shellfish and diving gear. This follows a similar arrest last month in Greenfields where R340,000 in abalone was found. Law enforcement continues to intensify efforts in the Eastern Cape to combat persistent illegal harvesting and trafficking of the protected species.
