Robert Morris, founder of Texas’s Gateway Church, pleaded guilty on October 2, 2025, to five counts of lewd and indecent acts with a child in Oklahoma, admitting to abusing a woman, now 55, starting at age 12 in 1982 while he was a traveling evangelist staying with her family in Hominy.
He received a 10-year suspended sentence with six months in jail, must register as a sex offender, and will be supervised by Texas authorities.
The victim, Cindy Clemishire, said justice has been served and urged other survivors to speak out.
Oklahoma’s attorney general condemned the abuse, highlighting the betrayal of trust by a religious leader.
Morris had previously acknowledged past misconduct but described it as non-intercourse behavior.
The case was prosecuted after an Oklahoma grand jury indicted him earlier in 2025.
