A Republican primary in Tennessee’s 7th District will decide the nominee for a December special election to fill Rep. Mark Green’s vacated seat.
More than a dozen candidates are running in Tennessee’s special congressional primary to fill the seat vacated by Republican Rep. Mark Green, who resigned in July.
The race, in the reliably Republican 7th District including parts of Nashville, will determine the nominee for a December special election to maintain the GOP’s narrow House majority.
Republican contenders include state lawmakers, former officials, and business leaders, with Matt Van Epps leading in fundraising with $359,000, though several others used personal loans to fund their campaigns.
Democrats include state representatives and businessman Darden Copeland, who raised the most among them.
The district, redrawn in 2022 to favor Republicans, includes a Democratic-leaning portion of Davidson County.
Trump won the district in 2024 with about 60% of the vote, while Harris received nearly 68% in the county’s portion.
The Associated Press will not project a winner until it’s certain no trailing candidate can catch up.
Polls close at 7 p.m. Central time Tuesday.
