New Hanover County’s new $77 million Main Library opens on October 6 in downtown Wilmington’s Grace District, replacing the former location closed in August.
The 95,000-square-foot facility features modern spaces, computer access, study areas, meeting rooms, and a local history archive.
It will house the Cape Fear Museum and a planetarium, with the museum set to open in summer 2026.
The project, part of the larger $75 million Project Grace redevelopment, aims to create a community hub with improved public infrastructure.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 2:00 pm, and the building will be free and open to the public.
The former library site will be sold for at least $3.5 million to support mixed-use development.
