Journalist Rajiv Pratap died in a drunk-driving accident on Sept. 18, 2025, near Gangori Bridge, Uttarakhand, police say.
The Special Investigation Team in Uttarakhand has ruled journalist Rajiv Pratap’s death a road accident caused by intoxication, concluding that he drove a vehicle while impaired and lost control near Gangori Bridge on September 18, 2025, before plunging into the Bhagirathi River.
CCTV footage, post-mortem results, and vehicle analysis support the finding, with no evidence of foul play.
Pratap, 36, was last seen staggering from a hotel after drinking with police officials and a videographer.
His body was found ten days later at Joshiyara barrage.
While the SIT, led by DSP Janak Panwar, maintains the incident was accidental, his family and the Congress party dispute the findings, citing prior threats and calling for a more independent probe.
