India sought international support at UNESCO 2025 for 'Chhath Mahaparv' inscription.
The UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development, MONDIACULT 2025, ended in Barcelona on October 1 with the adoption of an outcome document affirming culture as a global public good and outlining a framework for strengthened cultural policies and international cooperation.
India was represented by Amita Prasad Sarbhai, who attended on behalf of Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Co-Chair for the Asia-Pacific Region.
The Indian delegation participated in key sessions and held bilateral meetings with the Netherlands and Fiji to seek support for the multinational inscription of 'Chhath Mahaparv' on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
