India and Japan inspect progress on Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail, targeting 2029 completion.
Indian Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Japan’s Transport Minister Hiromasa Nakano inspected the Surat stretch of India’s Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project on October 3, 2025.
They reviewed progress on the 508-kilometer corridor, noting advanced track-laying systems and completed viaducts, bridges, and pier work.
The project, a key India-Japan collaboration, aims to link major cities at 320 km/h with a travel time of about 2 hours and 7 minutes, featuring multi-modal connectivity and a passenger-focused station design in Surat.
Completion is targeted for 2029.
