Georgia’s Promise Scholarships fund free virtual K–8 schools, with 15,000+ applications since 2024.
Georgia families are increasingly using state-funded Promise Scholarships to enroll children in virtual private schools, with New Horizons New Directions Preparatory Academy launching a tuition-free online program for grades K–8 across the state.
Partnering with K-12 Private Academy, the program offers daily live instruction and materials at no cost, funded by scholarships up to $6,500 per student for those zoned to low-performing public schools.
Classes began in October 2025, and over 15,000 applications have been submitted since the program launched in 2024, with more schools expected to gain approval.
The initiative aims to expand educational choice for rural families, students with health issues, and those with nontraditional schedules, though critics continue to argue that public funds should remain in traditional public schools amid staffing and transportation challenges.
