Five sets of human remains found at Tuam's former Mother and Baby Home site, part of a search for nearly 800 infants buried there.
Excavations at the former Mother and Baby Home site in Tuam, Ireland, have uncovered five sets of human skeletal remains from the workhouse era (1841–1918), marking the first confirmed discovery of human remains at the site.
The dig, ongoing for 10 weeks, also revealed artifacts including glass baby bottle feeders, shoes, spectacles, and chamber pots.
The findings are part of a two-year project to locate and identify the remains of nearly 800 infants believed buried there.
The site, closed to the public, is being investigated to better understand the lives and deaths of those associated with the institution.
