FIFA insists it alone decides 2026 World Cup venues, rejecting Trump’s claims of political control.
FIFA Vice President Victor Montagliani stated that FIFA, not political leaders, has sole authority over 2026 World Cup host city decisions, countering former President Donald Trump’s claims he could relocate games from cities like Seattle and San Francisco over safety concerns.
Montagliani emphasized that the tournament’s venues, including Lumen Field and Levi’s Stadium, were finalized in 2022 and reaffirmed in 2024, with the final set for MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
He stressed FIFA’s independence from political influence, noting that changing venues would cause major logistical and legal issues due to reliance on government support for security and visas.
Despite close ties between FIFA and Trump, including an office in Trump Tower, Montagliani affirmed the organization’s autonomy.
The final draw is scheduled for December 5 at Washington’s Kennedy Center, where Trump serves as board chairman.
