The Duke of Sussex and five others sue Daily Mail publisher over alleged spying, with a high court hearing underway.
A High Court hearing begins in the case of the Duke of Sussex and six others against Associated Newspapers Limited, publisher of the Daily Mail, over alleged surveillance and data breaches including hiring investigators, installing listening devices, and intercepting calls.
The claimants, including Sir Elton John and Baroness Doreen Lawrence, allege unlawful activities, which ANL denies, calling them “lurid” and “preposterous.” The two-day preliminary hearing before Mr Justice Nicklin will address procedural issues ahead of a potential 2026 trial, possibly lasting nine weeks.
The court has previously rejected ANL’s time-bar argument and allowed disclosure of confidential Leveson Inquiry documents.
The judge also ordered the claimants’ lawyers to disclose documents on payments to witnesses.
