Two sisters, missing since 1989, were found alive in California in August 2025; their mother’s murder remains unsolved.
In August 2025, two sisters, Jasmin and Elizabeth Ramos, who were abandoned as infants in December 1989 after their mother’s murder in Arizona, were found alive in Ventura County, California, more than 36 years after going missing.
The girls, then 2 months and 14 months old, were discovered in an Oxnard park restroom and later adopted by a family who raised them under new names.
Authorities reopened the cold case using familial DNA and fingerprint evidence, identifying their mother, Marina Ramos, who had used the alias Maria Ortiz.
Her body was found with multiple stab wounds in Mohave County, Arizona, just days after the girls were found.
Investigators believe she was seen with two men and her daughters in a black compact pickup before her death.
The case remains unsolved, and authorities are seeking information about the men seen with her.
