Rivers State governor fires all commissioners after Supreme Court voids previous assembly.
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has dismissed all commissioners and public officers whose appointments were invalidated by a Supreme Court ruling that declared the previous House of Assembly unlawful.
The decision, announced during a valedictory event marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, follows the court’s finding that only the 27-member Assembly led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule is constitutionally valid.
The move nullifies confirmations made under the former three-member assembly, leading to a cabinet reshuffle with fewer than 10 commissioners retained pending reconstitution.
Fubara thanked his cabinet for their service and urged national unity behind President Bola Tinubu’s vision for peace and prosperity.
