Governor Dan McKee has called for oversight hearings into the Washington Bridge closure, following the delayed release of a forensic audit that found the state was partially to blame for the 2023 closure.
The 64-page report, completed in April 2024, was withheld for over a year due to ongoing litigation against 13 contractors, which McKee said was necessary to protect potential taxpayer recoveries.
The audit was leaked before its official release on September 26, prompting bipartisan demands for accountability.
House Speaker Joe Shekarchi and Senate President Valarie Lawson plan joint hearings in October, possibly including sworn testimony, while consulting with the attorney general’s office.
The westbound span was demolished, and a replacement is expected by late 2028.
