Queensland is accelerating creation of domestic and sexual violence peak bodies by 2026, backed by $1.62M for Indigenous-led initiatives.
The Queensland government is fast-tracking the creation of a peak body for domestic and family violence, launching it by January 2026—four years ahead of schedule—under the Queensland Domestic Violence Services Network.
A separate peak body for sexual violence will also be established by mid-2026, funded through the Queensland Sexual Assault Network, to amplify victim-survivor voices in shaping policy and services.
The move follows recommendations from the Women’s Safety Taskforce and responds to rising victim numbers and service gaps.
The government is also launching a study on misidentification of perpetrators and implementing new laws, including on-the-spot police protection orders and GPS monitoring for high-risk offenders.
$1.62 million in funding will support Indigenous-led violence prevention initiatives.
