Patricia Johnson, 66, was indicted on 24 counts including wire fraud and money laundering for allegedly selling non-Kona coffee as “100% Kona” for over $5.2 million from 2012 to 2024.
Federal prosecutors say she bought more than 194,000 pounds of beans from out-of-state wholesalers, falsely labeling them as Kona despite knowing they were from South America and other foreign countries.
Over $830,000 in cash was seized during searches of her properties in April 2024.
Johnson, who ran Kona Coffee Cafe since the 1990s, is being held without bail due to alleged witness tampering, and the DOJ seeks forfeiture of $5.26 million.
Her physical store is closed, but her online business remains active.
