A 34-year-old man from Claremont, Vaughn Paul Mitchell III, was arrested after a high-speed chase across three North Carolina counties on September 30, 2025, following a failed stop at a license checkpoint due to lack of identification.
The pursuit, which reached speeds over 100 mph and spanned Catawba, Alexander, and Iredell counties, ended when law enforcement deployed stop sticks on I-40, disabling his 2015 Chevrolet Malibu.
Mitchell was taken into custody without incident, faces multiple charges including felony fleeing to elude and carrying a concealed weapon, has three outstanding warrants, and was released on a $125,001 bond.
His vehicle was seized under North Carolina’s “Run and You’re Done” law.
A female passenger was not arrested.
