A new graphene filter boosts lithium-sulfur batteries, extending life and improving performance for EVs and devices.
A graphene-based, one-atom-thick filter developed by researchers from the University of Florida, Purdue, and Vanderbilt has improved lithium–sulfur batteries by blocking harmful sulfur molecules while allowing lithium ions to pass, significantly extending battery life.
In tests, batteries with the filter maintained nearly full capacity over 150 charge cycles, addressing a major hurdle that previously limited their performance.
The technology could enable longer-lasting power for electric vehicles, smartphones, and drones, and improve efficiency in heavy transport, though large-scale production remains ahead.
