Ned Brown, 61, marked his 45th anniversary working at Stafford’s Hardware in Bega, Australia, a family business where he’s spent his entire career.
Born into a family with deep ties to the company—his mother was a Stafford and his father worked the kilns for nearly 30 years—Ned began helping during school holidays in the 1970s, cleaning blocks with a turkey feather and earning his first $100 paycheck.
He joined full time in 1980, working night shifts firing clay bricks until the original 1939 kiln closed in 1992.
Today, he handles timber, loads trucks, and maintains order at the hardware yard.
Recognized as a finalist in the 2025 Bega Valley Business Awards’ Outstanding Employee category, Ned is praised by manager George Karmadonoff for his calm professionalism, thoughtful contributions, and unwavering dedication.
